I Added This Tee to My Cart as an Afterthought. It Is All I Have Worn Since.

A note about the simple summer tee that was never supposed to become a wardrobe favourite.

The Miranda, the morning it arrived. A simple piece that quickly earned its place in the wardrobe.

I am at the age where I know exactly what I will and will not wear. If something pulls in the wrong place, needs constant adjusting, or only works with one particular pair of trousers, it simply does not get worn.

Which is why it surprised me that one of the simplest pieces in my wardrobe became the one I kept reaching for.

The Miranda was not the piece I expected to love most. It looked like an easy summer tee — comfortable, uncomplicated and useful. The sort of thing you add because you know you will probably find a reason to wear it.

Then it arrived.

And somehow, every time I stood in front of my wardrobe wondering what to put on, my hand went straight back to it.

The tee that is not really a tee

Here is what photographs do not quite explain about the Miranda. It has the ease of your favourite everyday tee, but it does not look like something you simply threw on.

Running down the front is a neat row of small buttons, set slightly off to one side. It is such a small detail, but it changes the whole top.

Suddenly a basic summer piece looks considered. You can put it on with jeans, slim trousers or shorts and feel as though you have actually made an effort, even when you have not.

Then there is the longer back hem.

It falls a little lower behind, giving you that extra bit of coverage around the hips and back without turning the top into something oversized or shapeless.

It is the difference between a top that works with your body and one you spend the whole day adjusting.

The relaxed shape skims rather than clings, which is exactly what I want on a warm South African day. The sleeves are easy, the shape feels relaxed, and it is the sort of piece you can wear from the morning errands straight through to lunch without thinking about changing.

Then something happened

I started noticing how often I was choosing it.

Not because it was the newest thing in the wardrobe, but because it removed one decision from the morning. I already knew it would feel comfortable. I already knew it would sit nicely. And I already knew I could pair it with almost anything.

One easy shape, three completely different looks.

That is when I understood why this is the kind of top you end up wanting in more than one colour.

The rose feels soft and feminine. White is the one that works with almost everything already hanging in your wardrobe. Blue gives the same relaxed shape a slightly brighter feel.

And because the design itself is uncomplicated, changing the colour changes the whole mood without changing the thing you liked about the top in the first place.

And for me, that is where a piece like this makes the most sense. It is not something designed for one special occasion and then forgotten at the back of the wardrobe. It is the opposite.

It is the piece you reach for on an ordinary Tuesday. The one that works when you are going out for coffee, doing the shopping, meeting someone for lunch or simply want to feel put together without dressing up.

What I would tell a friend

If we were sitting together with a cup of coffee and you asked whether the Miranda was worth adding to your wardrobe, I would tell you why it surprised me.

Comfortable clothes are often made to look as though comfort was the only thing that mattered. They become too plain, too boxy or too shapeless.

The Miranda manages to stay easy while still having those small details that make it look intentional.

The buttons give it character. The longer back gives you coverage. The relaxed cut makes it easy to wear. And because it comes in several colours, it is the kind of piece that can quietly become part of your everyday rotation.

That is really the whole story.
